Tools for everyone

These tools are accessible and usable for everyone. These tools are all web based, intuitive and easy to use, with built-in guides.

Tools for experts

These tools are used by C2B2 team members in C2B2 related activities. They may not be immediately available to everyone and all require varying degrees of expertise to use, and corresponding resources and time to produce useful results and insights. Follow the links for a bit more info related to access, input, output, effort, and examples. Follow the links for a motivation why the tool is listed in the C2B2 toolbox.

SymphonyLicense/access: Accessible at GitHub.Estimated minimum effort for usable result: 1 month, expert, full time.
Input: GIS layers. Available layers can be explored with the C2B2 Symphony Layer Explorer. Output: Maps, GIS layers, showing cumulative impact.Examples:

Ecopath with Ecosim (EWE)License/access: Most is for free. ‘Spatial temporal data framework’ and technical support come with a priced license.Estimated minimum effort for usable result: 1 year, expert, full time.
Input: Biomass (time-series), physiological ratios/parameters, diet composition.Output: Ecologic and economic descriptors, hind- and forecasting.C2B2 usage:

Why is this tool included in the C2B2 toolbox?

Symphony is SwAM’s tool for cumulative impact assessment. Cumulative impact assessment is an established approach to produce quantitative data about the pressure on an ecosystem. The limitations of the approach are obvious and well acknowledged. However, the approach is seen as useful and widely used for management of the marine environment. C2B2 has team members familiar with Symphony. Improving Symphony was the topic C2B2 Hackathon#1.

Why is this tool included in the C2B2 toolbox?

Ecopath with Ecosim is a very important tool for the C2B2 task T1.4 Quantifying effects of offshore installations on biodiversity, which in turn will produce several C2B2 deliverables as well as knowledge support to the LivingLabs.

Why is this tool included in the C2B2 toolbox?

Automated analysis of image data is probably about to be implemented in operational marine monitoring programmes. However, it is also used with decreasing effort in many limited and targeted applications. Such application could possibly support the LivingLabs. SUBSIM is specifically designed to facilitate such applications, even if additional resources would be required. C2B2 has team members involved in SUBSIM.

Why is this tool included in the C2B2 toolbox?

MyOcean Pro (visual) and Copernicus Marine Data Store (catalogue) are two entrance points to the same expert level of data at Copernicus Marine Service. Copernicus Marine Toolbox is the set of tools for working with those data. To produce results for scientific publications, this is often where data are found, rather than the easier access MyOcean Learn or MyOcean Light. C2B2 has several team members who access data at this expert level and use these expert tools, and several more team members have the needed data proficiency.
