C2B2 in Almedalen 2026

C2B2 contributes to three events in Almedalen 2026.

  1. We try something new – Starting the discussions already on the ferry to Visby: Om Östersjön ombord, in Swedish.
  2. Seminar: Nature-Security Nexus in the Baltic Sea Region, in English.
  3. Seminar: Security and cooperation in the Baltic Sea, in English.

Om Östersjön ombord – samtal, fika och nya perspektiv

Tisdag 23 Juni 15.00 – 17.00, Lilla konferensrummet, plan 8, akter, M/S Gotland

Intresserad? Skicka ett meddelande till c2b2@gu.se:

Nature-Security Nexus in the Baltic Sea Region

Thursday 26 June 14.00 – 14.45, Cramérgatan 5, Almedalsbiblioteket, Östersjödagarna

Event ID: 7735. Info in the Almedalen programme cataloge.

Description of the social issue

The Baltic region are facing times of unsecurity and crisis. How can ecological restoration, for example rewetting of peatlands and swamps, and other measures be integrated into the national and regional resilience building planning?

Extended information about the event

The Baltic region are facing times of unsecurity and crisis and is exposed to growing geopolitical tensions, once again claiming the Baltic Sea as a stage for international politics. This is mainly discussed as a defence or broader societal challenge without involving experts on ecosystems and the sea. In recent years, aside from geopolitical significance, the Baltic is also known as one of the most environmentally vulnerable seas and its high commercial activity, through heavy shipping traffic and a significant portion of worlds commercial shipping. In addition, the Baltic is still bearing the burden of past political conflicts.

– How can ecological restoration, for example rewetting of peatlands and swamps, and other measures be integrated into planning of national and regional resilience?
– What actors needs to be involved?
– Are there new arenas or platforms needed for taking the next steps?

A broad group of actors needs to be part this discussion sharing experiences and ideas.

Security and cooperation in the Baltic Sea – how do we use marine data for both defence and society?

Thursday 26 June 15.15 – 16.00, Cramérgatan 5, Almedalsbiblioteket, Östersjödagarna

Event ID: 7743. Info in the Almedalen programme cataloge.

Description of the social issue

Marine operations generate large amounts of data that can be used to detect risks, protect infrastructure and improve environmental monitoring. Data sharing raises questions about security, confidentiality and responsibility. How can we strengthen our security and cooperation between marine actors through data sharing?

Extended information about the event

The development of sensors, autonomous vessels and infrastructure at sea means that large amounts of data are collected by both public and private actors. Such technology can have dual uses and contribute to both environmental and safety-related monitoring and operational operation. In Sweden, this is still underutilized. This is partly because issues related to data access, ownership and use are unclear. At the same time, international experience points to improved and safer data sharing being able to create opportunities for interaction between civil and security actors. The seminar will be held in English and will be organised within the framework of two research projects. Mistra Co-Creating Better Blue (C2B2), which examines how collaboration can strengthen marine management, and SAFEWIN funded by Formas, who study how dual-use technologies can contribute to secure data sharing and protection of energy infrastructure.
